This week brought us news of a 17% stock drop in Nintendo's stock price as they warned of their limited ownership of PokemonGo.
This sent fickle investors into a panic and then opportunistic media into a race for headlines about PokemonGo's impending doom.
My personal experience tells a different story.
You see, I spent yesterday evening out with my kids, recently back from summer camp, hunting PokemonGo. They loved the game, but more than that, they were amazed at how many people were out in our town of Port Washington, playing. I was amazed at how packed the local ice cream store was, with people taking advantage of the fact that someone has thrown a "Lure" at the PokeStop next door.
Dozens of people, (of all ages!) out playing PokemonGo, and buying ice cream. I saw it with my own eyes.
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about exactly how small businesses with a physical presence can leverage PokemonGo to drive traffic and grow their business.
This is easiest and most obvious if you own or run an ice cream store, coffee shop, or restaurant.
But there's no reason you can't leverage this if you're not one of those business owners.
Imagine a pediatric dentist actually getting kids excited about going to the dentist. Or a hardware store with a scavenger hunt to get people to realize more things they sell. Or a clever real estate firm mapping out all the PokemonGo PokeStops and Gyms in your town. Or a jewelry store "luring" people with a promotion and a low-end "free product" just to increase foot traffic and build a mailing list.
The possibilities are endless!
Is PokemonGo a fad? Maybe. I have no idea!
But it doesn't matter. The bottom line is that right now, it's an opportunity for your business.
