There's a line in the movie The Social Network, where the Sean Parker character says to the Mark Zuckerberg character:
"You know what's cooler than 1 million dollars? 1 billion dollars."
My line when it comes to social media advertising for small business is a little different:

You see, while it's true that Facebook now reaches an astounding 1.5 billion people every month, the truth is, that unless you're the CMO of PepsiCo, McDonalds or G.E., it doesn't really matter how many hundreds of millions of people you reach.
You need to reach the right people to grow your small business.
And Facebook has lots of data on those 1.5 billion people, so you can reach any subset you'd like to that makes sense.
If you're a Chinese food restaurant owner in Cleveland, Ohio, you can reach just people in Cleveland who "like" Chinese food.
If you're the owner of a recruitment firm in Dallas, Texas, you can reach just business owners and heads of HR in Dallas.
If you're a jewelry store owner in Port Washington, NY, you can reach just men in Port Washington who are in a serious relationship (and likely to get engaged soon), or maybe just couples in Port Washington celebrating their 10 year wedding anniversary - LOVE YOU, Carrie!)
And so on, and so forth.
In other words, no matter what you sell and who you sell to, you can reach the precise audience you want to reach through Facebook advertising. It's not about how much money you spend or how many people you reach. it's about reaching the right people that your business can serve.
NO MORE WASTED ADVERTISING DOLLARS!
