rc_blog_two_1.jpgWhile only one day of the year, Small Business Saturday, presents a huge opportunity for business owners everywhere. The focus on shopping small and honoring local businesses inevitably gets consumers thinking about how they can spend more and buy more from small shops. While as a small business owner it’s awesome to know you’re in the hearts and minds of many consumers, at the same time it’s foolish to think you can just sit back, let the holiday run it’s course, and see increased sales. Plus, on tail of Black Friday and the amidst the holiday season, it can be tempting to put prepping for Small Business Saturday on the back burner.

So, how can you leverage #SmallBizSat without sacrificing too many hours & with so little time? Here are 4 quick and easy ways to capitalize on this Saturday’s holiday.

  1. PLAN AHEAD

If you’re reading this anytime before Saturday morning, you have enough time! First, think about how you want to participate. Are you going to have an in-store promo? What about a social sharing component? Might you surprise and delight customers? Social media and email marketing are two great digital assets you have to spread the message about your involvement in Small Business Saturday. Whip up a quick Facebook post (and boost it to your target audience!) or email to send out to. Making sure folks know that you will be getting involved will greatly increase the chances of you having successful participation.

  1. ENCOURAGE AND INCENTIVIZE SOCIAL INTERACTION

How awesome would it be if the friends and networks of your shoppers on Small Business Saturday were spreading the word about your business and your promotion? That would be so much word-of-mouth! By creating a social/interactive element in your business on Small Business Saturday you can achieve this! Create a cool photo opportunity and ask customers to take a picture, share it, and tag you. Or, incentivize social media activity/sharing in exchange for a discount or prize. You could even create an online promotion for folks who can’t make it into your physically location (if you have one).

  1. JOIN THE CONVERSATION ONLINE

Thousands of small businesses, thought leaders, and consumers will be (and already are) sharing using the hashtag #SmallBizSat. Join them! By engaging in conversations you’ll be able to network with the small business community and potential new customers! Plus, you’ll likely gain some new social followers along the way. As a business, using topical and timely hashtags helps you stay relevant & engaged with your audience.

  1. PRACTICE GRATITUDE

Even though Thanksgiving is the official day of gratitude, on Small Business Saturday, show your appreciation to your customers for their business. Use social media to publically thank your customers, or even surprise and delight one or several lucky customers with a special gift. A little gratitude goes a long way.
