Recently, Facebook made live a new local search feature called “Professional Services” that allows Facebookers to find and review highly rated businesses in their area. Since Facebook has not officially announced it yet, you probably haven’t gotten the low-down so we thought we’d clue you into what Facebooks Professional Services is, what it means for your business, and how you can leverage it today.


The idea behind Facebook Professional Services is to provide a place for people to search for a type of business they’re looking for, by location, with the context of star ratings and customer reviews….like Yelp or Google. The feature automatically plugs in your current location and gives you an example of all the different business categories you can search in--from Automotive Repair to Veterinarian (check out a full list of categories here).


Search results are definitely impacted by star rating, meaning businesses with more 5 star reviews get better placement, but it’s not the only factor. Given the mass amount of data Facebook has on users, Facebook also takes into account factors like previous engagement with the page, connections the the page, personal preferences, and more. This is good news for your business as you grow your engaged following and active presence!


While only in the early stages, Facebook Professional Services adds to the network’s growing emphasis on local businesses and local search. Just as the introduction of Facebook Places highlighted the importance of adding your location to your page as a local business, Facebook Professional Services highlights the importance of adding and growing your Facebook reviews. – Your business needs to be listed as a “Local Business” on Facebook to have the ratings and reviews, which is an important piece of Facebook Professional Services.
