Because everybody has email and a long history of using it, there is a higher brand connection via email – a relatively new medium. 72% of people still prefer to get business promotional material by email and 76% of subscribers have actually made a purchase inspired by an email. This may explain why 97% of businesses still send marketing emails.

That doesn’t mean businesses can send any old marketing spiel and have success. Many traditional sales buzzwords and subject lines are ignored by users, and about 45% will delete emails from businesses they deem send too many. Overall, men open more marketing emails than women, but women act more on the emails than men do. The best way to improve CTR across the board is to send relevant and personalized emails, including the recipient’s name in the subject line.

Furthermore, the most effective type of emails is “trigger-based” – when a web user ‘triggers’ the email through an action, such as not completing an online checkout.

One of the most interesting stats is that, on average, for every $1 spent on email marketing, $38 is generated in revenue. That’s cost effectiveness!
